Masculinity and social work practice
Approaches to working with men will be shaped by how we understand masculinity and men's lives. This article explores the challenges and directions for profeminist practice with men in social work by locating an understanding of men's lives in the context of patriarchy and the divisions of class, race, sexuality, and other forms of social inequality. The article concludes by outlining the implications in practice, of a profeminist approach to men as gendered workers in social work, engaging men as individuals and in men's groups, and working for structural change at the community and societal levels.
