The advancement of complex power networks has evoked continuous generation of massive data at control centres. The necessity of prompt decision-making and data accessibility under complex conditions of power systems requires visualization techniques to resolve data handling issues and to enhance power system sustainability and efficiency. Information Visualization technique is a popular tool used in many scientific fields, because it can manage and interpret an enormous amount of data in a presentable manner. However, its application in electrical power system is still in its early stages. This paper demonstrates the significance of visualization techniques in power networks through the design and development of a web application to display key attributes of power data using GIS mapping. The technique used in this paper is aimed to analyze, monitor, and plot the dynamic visual information of the power generation data of a microgrid network by using Google map API v3 application. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique in real-time monitoring and effective management of big data from a complex power system. Thus, the investigated technique can be applied for planning and managing power networks.
