Measuring the contact temperature between steel-tool steel pairs in an industrial manufacturing process can be challenging. This study examines the theoretical and numerical prediction of temperature at the sliding contact surfaces of steel-steel pairs using the pin-an-disc and Archard models. The results showed a good correlation between numerical and theoretical calculation of contact temperature. There was abrupt increase in the contact temperature at the contacting surfaces as the sliding speed was increased beyond 35 mm/s. Localization of high peak temperature at the contact regions of the sliding surfaces observed in this study may be important in the wear mechanism of sliding bodies and wider manufacturing community.
