(Background) Climate Change Science Impacts and Adaption and their Communication (4701) are rapidly evolving, this work produces knowledge at the forefront of where this intersects with Extended Reality in Information Systems (4609). Current international developments in Climate Communication identify a need to express the consequences of Anthropocene at scale but in individualised and interactive ways. How to do so is the research question this work answered, creating knowledge in an immersive experience that was publicly exhibited at Melbourne Knowledge Week 2021. (Contribution) The work created new knowledge on how transport emissions could be visualised, experienced, and interpreted. Knowledge was created via an augmented reality technology where C02 was made visible and manipulable in a local contexts. Doing so produced a new benchmark for 4701 drawing from best practices in 4609 and required the researchers to consider significant personal context (Melbourne CBD visualisation), the requisite systems design (assets and user experience in AR), and narrativisation and gamification of transport data (interactivity in app from signalled choices). The resultant immersive visualisation of CO2 within a personal ‘hands on’ context is a novel and significant contribution to its fields of research in answering how to develop personalised knowledge about climate choices and consequences for impactful mass experience in immersive media. (Significance) The significance of the output is currently measured through: demonstrating a new way of intervening for climate change communications evidenced by the NTRO’s curation in Melbourne Knowledge Week’s (2021). Further significance is evidenced through the sustained partnership with industry partner City of Melbourne, showing esteem for the value of our research as it evolved from version 1.0 (2020) to 2.0 that was put to public engagement of of a key partner message need: climate communications for the City of Melbourne, pop 5mPublication classification
