Vision 2 develops and tests a collaborative model with a diverse level of stakeholders towards redefining and revitilizing central Geelong. The project is a formal (MoU) collaboration between the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG), Deakin University, Committee for Geelong (CFG) and the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD), to develop the new vision. A series of modules and outputs were explored and investigated to facilitate the substantial cross-discipline engagement across the different levels of stakeholders. Deakin University staff were in positions of director and leadership roles to organize and facilitate aspects of the project. The project was commissioned by Committee for Geelong and funded by Department of Planning and Community Development.

Following the establishment of 15 Thematic Concepts, the project team analysed and categorised each into a Venn Matrix model that saw the formation of 4 Key Scenarios; “Public Life”, “Inhabiting the City”, “Connectivity” and “Identity of the City” to explore as potential situations in which the vision could reach implementation.

To explore each key scenario, a briefing document established a design research strategy, including plot/ storyline, locational effect, stakeholder targeting, sequence of actions and visualisation that were then commissioned to targeted Design professionals at Grimshaw, Hayball, LAB architects and Third Ecology for investigation. Helping to inform this develop were inclusions of feedback gathered from community engagement events to date.

Each key scenario resulted in a design presentation that explored possible application and implementation as a framework for further engagement in the project. They were revealed at the Vision 2 Workshop 2 event and served as a basis for query, debate and informed development by the invited stakeholders.
