A re-appraisal of theory practice debate in social work
The relationship between theory and practice in social work has long been perceived as one of the most problematic issues facing the profession. This article examines the empirical research on theory and practice in social work and endeavours to answer the question “Why is there such a perceived gap between theories and practices in social work?” by examining competing positivist, interpretive and critical theory analyses.
