Accurate measurement of yam hairiness is essential for quality control. This series of papers reports findings of the author's most recent studies on the subject of yam hairiness. In Part 1, the fallacy of hairiness testing using commercial hairiness meters is examined, with particular reference to the effect of testing speed on yam hairiness results. In Part 2, several novel ways of reducing yam hairiness are described.
